"Java Music Improvisation Software Designer shares insights of easy stepping stones to rhythm improvisation with musicians!"

Musicians learn to tap complex rhythm patterns by using clever puzzles as stepping stones.

Once we learn to tap a complex rhythm pattern with our hand we can more easily strum it on the guitar or play it on the keyboards and drums without having to "think first in music notation"!

Some musicians may have felt held back by the traditional obligation to first learn music notation. Here is a second chance to try music again using a different perspective that exploits improvisation more and focuses on music notation less. Think of it as a Brain Game approach!

Insight: Anytime we perform a rhythm pattern on an instrument we encounter challenges. On the guitar we have to move our hand up and down the guitar neck to select the correct pitch or chord. On the keyboard we are faced with the same challenge to move up and down the keys to strike the correct pitch or chord. On the drums the challenge is even greater because we have to navigate across 3D space to reach the correct percussion object. However, if we first practice the complex rhythm pattern by tapping our hand we eliminate the extra challenges of navigating to the target pitch, chord, or percussion object. We can tap our hand to engrave the complex rhythm pattern into "muscle memory". Then when we transfer the complex rhythm pattern to the guitar, keyboard, or drums we can more easily reach that diffictult pitch, chord, and percussion object with the help of engraved muscle memory to guide us as a stepping stone. More insights are revealed in "Easy Stepping Stones to Rhythm Improvisation".

Too much reliance on counting alone is just one of the many traps of beginning and intermediate rhythm students! QuantumPortal.Com provides advanced alternative techniques focused on rhythm patterns as rhythmic words and phrases within a larger musical
language to take us beyond the basics of counting.

Improvisation is used to get us up to speed with juggling rhythm patterns on-the-fly, and in addition, we learn a simple way to document rhythm patterns in shorthand notation so we can preserve and share our improvisations with others. This then opens the door of opportunity to convert our improvisations into music notation! This is great for musicians who have struggled in the past to get the musical ideas they composed by ear into music notation. There is now a Stepping Stone shorthand method available to assist.

Here is an interesting video that provides very good insights into improvisation.

"Your Brain On Improv"!
One main take away is ... to improvise we turn down our "self-monitoring"  mode and turn up our "expressive" and "language" modes.

Rhythm is fluid. The starting point of rhythm is the individual rhythm pulse. Pulses can be aggregated to create complex Rhythm Patterns.

The metronome is key to mastering complex rhythm patterns and rhythm algorithms provide a fresh perspective to visualize and improvise rhythm.
