QuantumPortal Music Resources

QuantumPortal creates new eBook Series called Pulse Fusion. Pulse Fusion teaches Rhythm Improvisation from algorithmic perspective drawing upon the experience of Guitar Instructor and music simulations software developer.

What could you do with Infinite Rhythm Patterns?

Could that give you an advantage over other musicians?

You can be an expert of Rhythm, yes YOU!

Pulse Fusion helps musicians to think like computer music simulations software to improvise rhythm. Once rhythm patterns have been discovered they can be converted from Pulse Fusion Notation into music notation. This is a convenient bridge between the pure rhythmic side and the formal music notation side and completely eliminates the struggle to pull new rhythm patterns out of thin air. Musicians can think in pure rhythmic terms and then convert to music notation at the final stage to preserve an arrangement or composition in formal music notation. It helps musicians to "see" more rhythmic opportunities as a rhythm designer.

Just think of what could happen if a former Guitar Instructor later entered the Telecommunications field as a Java Programmer, Analyst, and Engineer then began creating Music Simulations Software using telecommunications networking logic to improvise music.

Example Electronic Metronome
Free Metronomes are available as Apps on Smart Phones and App Tablets.
Electronic Metronomes are available in the range of $9 to $90 US.

I got my metronome from http://www.guitarcenter.com

It is the Dr. Beat DB-30 shown below.

Original compositions in MP3 format can be heard at:

These compositions were created with the algorithms shared in this book.

When will the other eBooks in this series be available?

Pulse Fusion 1 starts off with the least complex rhythm algorithms that emulate mechanical step and stroboscopic motion.

Pulse Fusion 2 then picks up and continues into the world of cyclic and fluid motion.

I expect to have Pulse Fusion 2 – Ripple Streams ready in about 90 days. This is an interesting level that opens the door to splitting time into diffferent granularities of subdivisions. Pulse Fusion Notation once again leads the way to navigate this level. We even get into concepts of Nested Patterns that are used to generate oscillation patterns.

Pulse Fusion 3 will be available about 90 days after Pulse Fusion 2. Pulse Fusion 3 shows us how to put everything together from Pulse Fusion 1 and 2 to convert Pulse Fusion Notation into Music Notation! This will take you all the way from the understanding of rhythmic concepts up to displaying them in Music Notation using Pulse Fusion Notation as a type of rhythm calculus to bridge rhythm concepts into Music Notation.

As a former Guitar Instructor I found there were two types of musicians who could sight read music notation.

1] There were musicians who could translate music notation into a real-time performance but did not drill down deeper to investigate the algorithms that were used to create the music. This group could only perform when they had music notation is front of them or else had the music completely memorized note for note. This was the majority.

2] There was another group of musicians who could translate music notation on-the-fly into algorithmic mnenomics. This group could improvise by substituting some of the explicit music notation with variations of the algorithms behind the music. This was an elite group of musicians that did not require music notation to be in front of them to play music. This group of musicians often worked with Fake Books which do not explicitly notate music but instead provides lyrics, melody, and chord symbols. The detailed rhythm of the accompiament is missing and has to be improvised.

Pulse Fusion can transform the type 1 musicians described above into the type 2 musician. You can learn to think like music simulations software to effortlessly juggle a few rhythm algorithms and improvise infinite rhythm patterns. Instead of playing just one rhythm pattern for long passages you could tranistion between the one rhythm pattern and its numerous closely related shades of rhyhm to create enriched rhythmic tapestries.
